THE AMAZING ROS TAPESTRY – SPREADING THE WORD
May 30, 2010
FLASH ADVISORY BOARD in May
The newly-renamed Multi-Talent FLASH ADVISORY BOARD focussed on Ireland and New Ross in May. Together with six professionals from my network (including a British-Austrian documentary film-maker and the President of the Portuguese Association of Creativity and Innovation) I spent the weekend of 20th-22nd May in the town, as guests of the Board of THE ROS TAPESTRY.
POCKETS OF STITCHERS
Currently 120 stitchers in South-East Ireland are working in groups to complete the final five panels of this amazing presentation of visual history, depicting the arrival of the Normans in Wexford in the 12th Century.
THE ARTIST BEHIND THE TAPESTRY
Recognised as an astonishing work of ‘needle art’, it is the brain-child of the Irish artist, Ann Griffin-Bernstorff, who lives close to New Ross in a house which is also the home of her Doll and Costume Museum.
EXTENSIVE RANGE OF IDEAS
At the end of the weekend, I was proud to lead the presentation of an extensive list of short- and medium-term recommendations for making this contemporary Irish ‘Bayeaux’ more widely know on the national and global stage.
LINE-UP OF LOCAL DIGNITARIES
The closing meeting, attended by members of THE ROS TAPESTRY BOARD, the Town Clerk, the Chairman of the Council and fellow-councillors, and the local TD, Sean Connick, now a Junior Minister, welcomed our ideas and expressed an increased commitment to making the Tapestry a key attraction of the town.
