Examples of Top-level Assignments
BRITISH CABINET OFFICE TOP MANAGEMENT PROGRAMME:
Between 1986 and 2003, Alec Taylor provided first Media Skills training, then Presentation Skills training, followed by Strategic Communication in Practice for the Cabinet Office Top Management Programme. (This four-week high-level course involved both senior civil servants and board directors from the private sector.) He also developed a special workshop called Communicating under Pressure as a follow-up.
SENIOR POLITICIANS:
Between 1992 and 2000, Alec Taylor provided Media Skills coaching to Austrian government ministers, a President and two Prime Ministers, particularly during election campaigns when their Television appearances were of vital importance. He also worked with leading politicians in other European countries. The emphasis was always on developing confidence in debating skills, as well as clear messages in the language of ordinary people.
EU-COMISSIONER, Franz Fischler:
Alec Taylor worked with Dr. Franz Fischler in the months leading up to the Austrian EU-referendum to prepare him for Public Debates on Television. Following Dr. Fischler’s appointment as the EU Commissioner for Agriculture, Taylor was invited by Dr.Fischler to advise his cabinet and staff on the use of his IP tools in relation to the preparation of briefs and their presentation.
INTERNATIONAL ATOMIC ENERGY AGENCY:
Alec has conducted coaching and workshops – most recently Media Skills and Speechmaking – for the senior management of the IAEA in Vienna, including the Director General.
GLOBAL PLCs:
In recent years, assignments have included coaching Global Chairmen to Handle the Media and also to present their own internal TV news programmes, and address and motivate key meetings of their senior managers.
COUNCIL OF EUROPE:
Taylor coached both a former Secretary General and his Deputy in Handling the Media. This led on to a training-course in Speechwriting for both the Directors and their speechwriters.
